Step 3

C: (p. 60, par. 3-4) 'Being convinced, we were at Step Three, which is that we decided to turn our will and our life over to God as we understood Him. Just what do we mean by that, and just what do we do?'

'The first requirement is that we be convinced that any life run on self-will can hardly be a success. On that bests we are almost always in collision with something or somebody, even though our motives are good.' This thing called self-will. Before we turn loose of self-will,

Bill told us back in his story,he said: 'Simple but not easy... It meant the destruction of self-centeredness.'( p. 14, par. 2) In order for us to be willing to turn loose of this self-will, we're probably going to have to really understand why we need to turn loose of self-will.

Nearly everybody operates on self-will. Most of us did practically all of our lives. We are very reluctant to turn it loose unless we really understand why we have to do that. It's kind of hard to do anything about a problem unless you really understand what the problem is.

I think in order for us to turn loose of self-will, we're going to have to talk a little bit first about: what is self-will? Where does it come from, and how does it fit into these things?
